Residential Rental Inspections

The Town of Moorefield enacted a new ordinance, Chapter 23, in November 2023.  The ordinance went into effect on March 11, 2024.  This ordinance requires inspections of residential rental dwelling units once every three years. The inspection process is listed below

Rental Inspection Process

Complete the registration form listing each rental property that you own within the Town of Moorefield. This step will only be done once as long as you own the property. The form can be signed and submitted electronically or printed and dropped off at the Town Office at 206 Winchester Ave.

Step 1

Fill out an application for the Certificate of Occupancy and pay your fee. This step will be done every 3 years; however, most of the information will carry over from the previous term.  Click on the step 2 link below to fill out the application. The application along with the payment can be mailed or dropped off at the Town Office, 206 Winchester Ave.  In addition, credit card payments can be processed at the Town Office.

Step 2

Schedule the inspection with a Town Code Enforcement officer or a Third Party Inspector. For the initial inspection, we will contact you to schedule the inspection on a convenient date.

Step 3

Once your inspection is scheduled you will host your inspection day with the inspector you scheduled with.

When your inspection is complete you’ll receive the results from the inspector.

Step 6

Obtain your Certificate of Occupancy from the Town, which is valid for 3 years.
